Banig and how to introduce it to the global market

As Filipinos living in our own country it is our work to share and protect our culture. It is important to share it not just on our nation but to other parts of the world as well. So that individuals will find what the Philippines is and they will see the beauty of Filipino tradition, culture, and convention.

Introducing a new product to the global market isn’t easy. In this blog, I will be introducing a product called Banig. Banig or handmade mats are made from the leaves of the screw pine trees or locally called in the Philippines as pandan. These are primarily used for sleeping and sitting in most Southeast Asian countries like the Philippines.

Depending on the abilities of the mat creator, it takes around two to five weeks to create a single mat. The individuals of the Samal tribe in Southern Mindanao are particularly rumored to create exceptionally fine weaves that are utilized in handcrafted satchels, envelopes and wallets, and among other embellishment items.

The Banigan Festival is one of the most anticipated festivals in the town of Basey, Samar. This celebration is a yearly move parade of various types of mats. This celebration demonstrates the 2 fundamental wellspring of job in Basey. These are the bamboo weaving and the tangle weaving. It is being praised as of recently to proceed with the convention that has been passed to them for a long time.

The celebration highlights the town's woven mats and bamboo makes through its annually street move parade. Showing the noteworthy wellspring of work of the common populace of Basey, the mats are made of colored leaves that takes off and are outstandingly composed utilizing energetic colors. Weaving has turned into a custom of Basey and was passed on from ages to ages.

You probably have the basic idea of the banig is, made of, from, now here are ways to introduce it to the global market:

1. Study your competition.
Now this is the basic of the basics, every business owner knows that you should always study your competition. Many marketing classes teach people how to perform a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) test. You obviously have to start by taking a serious look at your competitors, don't underestimate your competition and turn into Intel. Even if you think your new product or service is entirely unique and without existing competition, it's important to put yourself in your prospective customers' shoes and imagine what they might buy in lie of what you plan to offer.

2. Target the ideal customer.
This is where mosty business owners get wrong hence putting them out of business. Most entrepreneurs go for a broad amount of products, well this isn't wrong when you have a huge amount of customers, but for the new entrepreneurs you must make a name for yourself first. Did Apple start selling Macbooks before they sold iPhones? No, they did not. To successfully launch your new product or service with minimum financial outlay, it's essential to focus exclusively on the products you believe are most likely to be purchased from you.

3. Respect the country's cultural values
When McDonald's first entered India within the 1990s, its signature Big Mac seem not be on the menu in a country where nearly half of the citizens are vegetarian, and the cow is venerated as sacred. In response, McDonald's localized its menu to suit Indian tastes and social values. They reacted by making an completely different menu, and their strategy may be a prime illustration of how indeed the biggest of companies can turn an impediment into a business opportunity.

4. Evaluate local market opportunities
You will almost likely be unable to win over an entire global conglomeration in one deal, well if you did then that would put all of wall street investors into shame. Think locally first, and aim to win over multi-national corporations operating in your home country. Remember loyal customers at home will help open doors abroad.

Now that you have learned how to introduce banig to the local market, whats left now is to execute it, and always remember to always start small and slowly become big, in other words, Don't bite off more than what you can chew.
