African Music

 


        

        Due to the historical expanse of the African continent, its music is diverse, with many distinct musical traditions found in different areas and countries throughout the continent. African music includes the genres Jùjú, Fuji, Highlife, Makossa, Kizomba, Afrobeat and others. The particular music featured in the video above is Kizomba. Kizomba is a term that refers to a celebration, a gathering, or a party. Kizomba, which has its origins in Angolia, is a sensual piece of music that is accompanied with an exceptionally beautiful dance. 

        African music serve a variety of functions and has many roles in their civilization. It is used to provide direction, to tell stories, to guide, to conduct religious rites, and to convey happiness or dissatisfaction, among other things. As well as ceremonial celebrations and masquerades, it is also employed in everyday life. It is important for a lively event to have singing, dancing, and playing activities.
