Mosaic art: How to make crepe paper mosaics

Mosaic, is the decoration of a surface with designs made up of closely set, usually variously coloured, small pieces of material such as stone, mineral, glass, tile, or shell. In the ancient times, mosaics first were made of uncut pebbles of uniform size. It was the Greeks however, who elevated the pebble mosaic to an art of great refinement, also invented the tessera technique. The tessera technique uses special, cube-shaped tiles called tesserae that were created specifically to make mosaics.

How to make crepe paper mosaics:

1 Prepare materials

Prepare the following materials:

Colored crepe paper

A printout of your design

Small bowls for each color

Glue

Pair of scissors

2 Cut the crepe paper into long thin strips

Make sure that its thin and long otherwise the roll would be too big and cut it not too small either

4 Roll them into tiny balls and crumple them

Roll them until they are small enough.

5 Prepare your design

Paste your printed out design onto an illustration board in order for it to not get too sloppy when placing glue and ruining the artwork

6 Paste the crumpled crepe paper rolls into your design.

Make sure to not place too much glue as it can tear through paper and mess up the colors and make sure the color matches the design.

7 Dry it completely

Dry it completely in front of a fan to make sure that all of the crumpled rolls are placed firmly to make it not slip later.

8 Enjoy your artwork

Banig and how to introduce it to the global market

As Filipinos living in our own country it is our work to share and protect our culture. It is important to share it not just on our nation but to other parts of the world as well. So that individuals will find what the Philippines is and they will see the beauty of Filipino tradition, culture, and convention.

banig

Introducing a new product to the global market isn’t easy. In this blog, I will be introducing a product called Banig. Banig or handmade mats are made from the leaves of the screw pine trees or locally called in the Philippines as pandan. These are primarily used for sleeping and sitting in most Southeast Asian countries like the Philippines.

Depending on the abilities of the mat creator, it takes around two to five weeks to create a single mat. The individuals of the Samal tribe in Southern Mindanao are particularly rumored to create exceptionally fine weaves that are utilized in handcrafted satchels, envelopes and wallets, and among other embellishment items.

The Banigan Festival is one of the most anticipated festivals in the town of Basey, Samar. This celebration is a yearly move parade of various types of mats. This celebration demonstrates the 2 fundamental wellspring of job in Basey. These are the bamboo weaving and the tangle weaving. It is being praised as of recently to proceed with the convention that has been passed to them for a long time.

Noticeable for its meticulously woven and brilliantly composed mats, Basey, Samar is known as the Banig Capital of the Philippines. The celebration highlights the town's woven mats and bamboo makes through its annually street move parade. Showing the noteworthy wellspring of work of the common populace of Basey, the mats are made of colored leaves that takes off and are outstandingly composed utilizing energetic colors. Weaving has turned into a custom of Basey and was passed on from ages to ages.

You probably have the basic idea of the banig is, made of, from, now here are ways to introduce it to the global market:

1. Study your competition.
Now this is the basic of the basics, every business owner knows that you should always study your competition. Many marketing classes teach people how to perform a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) test. You obviously have to start by taking a serious look at your competitors, don't underestimate your competition and turn into Intel. Even if you think your new product or service is entirely unique and without existing competition, it's important to put yourself in your prospective customers' shoes and imagine what they might buy in lie of what you plan to offer.

2. Target the ideal customer.
This is where mosty business owners get wrong hence putting them out of business. Most entrepreneurs go for a broad amount of products, well this isn't wrong when you have a huge amount of customers, but for the new entrepreneurs you must make a name for yourself first. Did Apple start selling Macbooks before they sold iPhones? No, they did not. To successfully launch your new product or service with minimum financial outlay, it's essential to focus exclusively on the products you believe are most likely to be purchased from you.

3. Respect the country's cultural values
When McDonald's first entered India within the 1990s, its signature Big Mac seem not be on the menu in a country where nearly half of the citizens are vegetarian, and the cow is venerated as sacred. In response, McDonald's localized its menu to suit Indian tastes and social values. They reacted by making an completely different menu, and their strategy may be a prime illustration of how indeed the biggest of companies can turn an impediment into a business opportunity.

4. Evaluate local market opportunities
You will almost likely be unable to win over an entire global conglomeration in one deal, well if you did then that would put all of wall street investors into shame. Think locally first, and aim to win over multi-national corporations operating in your home country. Remember loyal customers at home will help open doors abroad.

Now that you have learned how to introduce banig to the local market, whats left now is to execute it, and always remember to always start small and slowly become big, in other words, Don't bite off more than what you can chew.

Liberation Park

The Liberation Park is located in Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City. It features seven larger-than-life statues that honor Filipino and American soldiers who gave their lives to free Cebu from the Japanese Army. The Battle of the Visayas was fought by U.S. forces and Filipino guerrillas against the Japanese from 18 March – 30 July 1945, in a series of actions officially designated as Operations Victor I and II, and part of the campaign for the liberation of the Philippines during World War II.

“Here comes the Americal Division of the U.S. 8th Army led by Com. Gen. William H. Arnold and Capt. Albert T. Sprague, assisted by the Philippine Guerrilla of the 8th Military District under the leadership of Lt. Col. James M. Cushing, March 26, 1945. The presence is part of the Victor II operation carried out by Gen. Douglas MacArthur to recover the provinces of Cebu, Bohol and Negros. This gave way to the liberation of the City of Cebu, 27 March 1945; and surrender of the Japanese to the province, August 28, 1945. ”

As inscribed.

The Talisay landing on March 26, 1945 was preceded by a naval bombardment of the beaches along Tangke, Talisay to soften up Japanese positions. After an hour, the first Landing Vehicle Tracked or LVTs carrying American soldiers made their way to the shore. However, they had to deal with Japanese mines that were laid along the beaches. These mines delayed landing operations for two hours as the beaches were cleared of these mines.

The park is now one of the favorite hangouts of locals. Residents in the area are aware of the significance of the monument in the liberation of Cebu and the country as a whole. Each year, a reenactment of the Talisay landing is held at the site. Representatives of the American and Japanese governments normally join the event. World War 2 veterans are also recognized.

The Liberation Park in Talisay City serves as a reminder for us and the future generations of the sacrifices our forefathers to liberate the country from foreign invaders. It also shows the special bond the country has with the United States during one of the dark periods in the history of the Philippines

James and da giant peach

A young boy who is orphaned when his parents are eaten by a rhinoceros. James is consequently sent to live with his two aunts, Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker.
The entire cast

These relatives are very cruel to him, and he is incredibly lonely, since he has no friends yet longs to play with children his own age. But on one particularly hard day, James's luck changes: an Old Man appears in the backyard garden and offers James a packet of magical green objects.

If James follows a set of specific instructions (says the Old Man), something spectacular will happen. James is very excited, but as he runs back to his house to execute the instructions, he trips and the magical green objects burrow into the ground. James is incredibly upset, but as he begins to resume his chores, he hears his aunts shouting.

James soon discovers the source of the commotion: a peach has begun to grow on a top branch of a previously barren peach tree. As the three of them watch, the peach becomes larger and larger, until it is bigger than the aunts' entire house. Seeking to capitalize on this strange event, Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker set up a fence and begin charging admission to see the peach. They forbid James from interfering, fearing that he will ruin their profit-making scheme. The night after the first day of visitors, James sneaks out of the house to visit the peach. He sees a hole at the bottom of the peach, and he realizes that this hole is the opening to a tunnel. He begins to crawl through, and he eventually enters the hollow peach pit at the center of the fruit.

When James enters the pit's inner chamber, he meets an odd assortment of creatures, who initially intimidate him: Miss Spider, Centipede, Earthworm, Old-Green-Grasshopper, and others. The next day James and his new companions begin their journey away from Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker. Centipede cuts the peach away from its tree and the peach begins to roll, flattening everything in its way - including Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker, who are killed. The peach then rolls off of a cliff several miles away and lands in the Atlantic Ocean.
From this point forward, James and his friends face a series of obstacles. They must escape attacking sharks, evade the Cloud men and their anger, and settle internal disputes. James asserts himself as the leader and frequently saves the day. When sharks attack, he has his companions fasten ropes to nearby seagulls, then to the stem of the peach, the peach rises out of the water and begins flying through the air. After one day of flying, James and his friends realize that they have flown across the entire Atlantic - they can now see New York City below them.
They begin to cut the seagull strings one-by-one, when suddenly a passenger plane flies above them and cuts all of the lines at once. Their gradual descent into the city is ruined and they begin to sink rapidly. Everyone holds on for dear life, thinking death is imminent, but they land safely on the pinnacle of the Empire State Building. After explaining their situation to the New York City policemen and firemen, James and his friends are brought to street level and are welcomed lavishly. The city throws a parade in their honor, and by the end of the parade the entire peach has been eaten by local children, who want to taste the giant fruit. After the parade, James and his friends live happily ever after. The remaining peach pit is set up as a monument in Central Park, and James lives inside of it. So many children visit him, hoping to hear his story, that he decides to write a book about the journey.

Family day

I spent my family day without my parents, but that's alright they have to do work away from home and I completely understand them.

Having a family doesn't really mean having a mother, father and siblings, a family is a group of people who you can count on, who respects you and who you respect and it is simply the most important thing in your life.

To me, family means a lot more than a relative by blood or marriage. It means the people who accept you no matter who you are, where there's no hatred or judgment. The love of a family should be unconditional, and everyone should try their best to provide all they can for the people in their family, emotionally and financially. Family are the people that everyone deserves to feel secure, and comfortable with, even if they aren't lucky enough to have that.

I think a family is the most important thing in a person's life. A family enlarges their children, educates their children. I think first education begins in the family. If a child doesn't learn anything in her/his family, I think she/he can't be successful. We must be careful about our families. They are the crown of our heads.

Family is the smallest unit of society. Everybody education starts in the family. Love, respect and morals start in the family. They keep their secrets and share them with each other. Family is the main thing in the world. Here you can speak about a lot of things and have relationships. My mother always says: "Family will be there for ever. so sad it is, a friendship could go down."
I think family is the most important thing in our life. Maybe a pet can be part of family. We have pets, and we love them so much!
